Les Feldick Bible Study

Is God actually weak, or does He just do things the world calls weak?

God is not actually weak. Some of His ways appear weak to the world, such as turning the other cheek when misused, but those ways are stronger than men. What men label weakness in God's dealings is actually divine strength operating by a different standard.

Les explains that God is not actually weak, but some of the ways He does things the world would call weakness. He illustrates from the Old Testament and Christ's earthly ministry: if someone misuses you and strikes you on the cheek, you turn the other cheek. In the eyes of men, that looks like weakness. But in God's way of doing things, it is stronger than men. This follows the same contrast that God's foolishness is wiser than the greatest philosopher or educator, and His weakness is stronger than men.

1 Corinthians 1:25

Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
