Who was Apollos according to Acts 18:24?

Apollos was a certain Jew, born in Alexandria in Egypt, an eloquent man mighty in the scriptures, who came to Ephesus. In Corinth, some believers claimed allegiance to Apollos, creating divisions, but the context warns against getting hung up on any one man.

Les teaches that the Corinthian assembly had contentions and divisions, with some saying, 'I am of Paul,' and others, 'I am of Apollos.' Les takes us back to Acts chapter 18, verse 24, to see what kind of man these people were clinging to. He reads, 'And a certain Jew named Apollos, born in Alexandria, that's down in Egypt, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus.' On the surface, Apollos was an eloquent man and mighty in the Scriptures. Les warns that the same danger exists today: never get hung up on one man, because it is just not scriptural.
