Les Feldick Bible Study

When is it okay to exert your Christian rights?

Exerting Christian rights is permissible only as a last resort: when it is impossible to do anything else. It should not be the common practice. Paul demonstrated this when, before Israel's religious leaders, he forcefully responded to unjust treatment rather than remaining passive.

Les teaches that while exerting your Christian rights should not be the common thing to do, if it is impossible to do anything else, you have to do it. He points to Paul in Acts chapter 23, who did not stand before the religious leaders like a milk toast. When the high priest Ananias commanded that Paul be smitten on the mouth, Paul fired back and called him a whited wall—in so many words, a blatant hypocrite and religious leader who knew nothing of the things of God. Les explains that once in a while we have to respond this way, but it is not the norm.
