What is the core of Christianity?

The core of Christianity is love—love without dissimulation, meaning without hypocrisy. This sincere love must be exercised consistently, not only toward the wealthy and cultured but also toward those of low esteem. Genuine love is foundational to the Christian life and to the proper use of spiritual gifts.

Les teaches that love is the very core of Christianity. He points to verse 9, where believers are told, 'Let love be without dissimulation.' Les explains that dissimulation means hypocrisy, so Christians should not exercise their gifts only toward the wealthy or more cultured while neglecting those of low esteem. Instead, love must be genuine and consistent for all. He also connects this to the broader discussion of spiritual gifts, urging believers to use their gifts—exhortation, giving, leadership, mercy—with cheerfulness and sincerity, giving God the credit.
