Who actually causes the transformation of a sinner into a saint?

God Himself is the One who causes the metamorphosis. He transfigures a hell-bound sinner into a heaven-bound saint and performs the miracle of salvation, creating within the believer a whole new mind, will, and emotion while Old Adam dies. The sinner contributes nothing; God alone does the transforming work.

Les teaches that the One who causes the metamorphosis is God Himself. He is the One who transfigures a person from a hell-bound sinner into a heaven-bound saint. It is just that simple, and we cannot do anything. All we can do is stand before a Holy God and admit there is nothing we can do and that we cannot even move from where we are. Then He moves in, just as He did with Israel on the shores of the Red Sea. Israel did not scavenge for driftwood or try to build a bridge; God said, “stand still, don’t do anything.” The unbeliever must come to that same place, unable to do anything until God moves in and performs the miracle of salvation. In this verse, that miracle creates within us a whole new mind, will, and emotion. The personality has to be totally recreated. Old Adam has to die, with all its things concerning the world, and in his place God, by a miraculous work, gives us that transformed mind.

Romans 12:2

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

What can a person actually do to be saved or transformed?

We can do nothing to save or transform ourselves; all we can do is stand naked before a Holy God and admit we cannot even move from where we are.
