What place must an unbeliever come to before God saves them?

The unbeliever must come to the place of standing still before a Holy God, confessing there is nothing they can do and that they cannot even move from where they are. Only then does God move in and perform the miracle of salvation, creating a new mind, will, and emotion.

Les explains that just as Israel stood still at the Red Sea and did not scavenge for driftwood or try to build a bridge, the unbeliever must come to the same place of helplessness. All a person can do is stand stark naked before a Holy God and admit they cannot do anything, cannot even move. God then moves in, as He did with Israel, and performs the miracle of salvation. He transfigures a hell-bound sinner into a heaven-bound saint, creates within them a whole new mind, will, and emotion, and the personality must be totally recreated. Old Adam has to die, and in his place God gives a transformed mind.

Romans 12:2

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

We can do nothing to save or transform ourselves; all we can do is stand naked before a Holy God and admit we cannot even move from where we are.
