Les Feldick Bible Study

Does being set apart mean Christians are supposed to be weird or odd?

No. Being set apart does not make believers oddballs or put them out in left field. It designates them in God's mind as people of the Book, living to please Him first. Their priority is God first, and their practical Christian living is common and ordinary.

Les teaches that the temple instruments were set apart exclusively for temple use and nothing else, and that this illustrates what believers are for. We are a set-apart people. But he clarifies that this does not put us out as oddball or out in left field. Instead, in God's mind it designates us as people of the Book, people who are living to please Him first. He connects this to priority: set your priorities, and ask what is most important in your life. Scripture says to seek first the Kingdom of Heaven, and then all these other things can be added. Priority says God first, and then other things can come into their rightful place. The last four chapters of Romans are practical Christian living, which is common and ordinary.
