What peace do we have by being justified by faith?
Being justified by faith, the believer has peace with God. This peace rests on the promise that nothing can separate us from the love of God. It accompanies salvation’s ramifications—justification, sanctification, forgiveness, baptism into the body, and the Holy Spirit’s indwelling—and means freedom in Christ, not legalism or the yoke of bondage.
Les explains that Galatians was written because Jewish believers were pressuring these believers to return to the law, circumcision, and Judaism. Paul refutes that, insisting we are not under the law or its commandments. In chapter 5, he says to stand fast in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free and not be entangled again with the yoke of bondage, which is legalism. When you enter the salvation of Romans 1:16 and all its ramifications—justification, sanctification, forgiveness, baptism into the body, the Holy Spirit indwelling—you are in Christ and set free with a liberty like nothing else on this planet. Coming back to Romans 12:1, Les connects this to the believer’s promises: nothing can separate us from the love of God, and now being justified by faith, we have peace with God.
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
