Les Feldick Bible Study

What is the nature of the faith by which we are justified?

It is an invisible faith, not something worked at or produced by human energy. This faith is not a human achievement or effort. Justification rests on God's completed work—Christ died, was buried, and rose—so the believer contributes nothing in the flesh; it is all God's work.

Les teaches that this justifying faith is invisible and is not something you work at. In the flow of the passage, the therefore of no condemnation follows from the fact that Christ died, was buried, and rose from the dead, and that all of this was accomplished as an act of God in which we had nothing of our own energy. There was nothing in it we could do in the flesh; it was all the work of God. By contrast, those who say you must work, strive, and be careful or lose salvation are left with perpetual insecurity, because no one has the wherewithal to hang on of themselves.

Romans 8:1

There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
