What does Hebrews say about desiring the meat of the Word instead of milk?

Hebrews says believers are to desire the meat of the Word, getting into that which is strong, which helps them grow and get off the milk bottle. The milk of the Word is the basic teaching to be left behind; the meat is the stronger food that produces spiritual growth.

Les explains that Hebrews, which he attributes to Paul, tells believers to desire the meat rather than stay on milk — to get into that which is strong, which will help them grow and get off the milk bottle. He stresses that pastors especially must get into Paul's letters, because a viable living ministry will not come from preaching and teaching only the four Gospels; those things, which he calls the milk of the Word, have to be left behind. He illustrates this with what he used to tell his Sunday school kids: throw your milk bottle away, you're through with it, and start eating t-bone steaks and potatoes and vegetables. That, he says, is what the meat of the Word is all about. He then turns to 2 Peter 3:15, written by Peter shortly before he was martyred, near the end of his life.
