Why does the Bible say we should desire the meat of the Word instead of staying on milk?
Believers are to desire the meat of the Word because it is strong and helps them grow. The milk of the Word, associated with staying in the four Gospels, must be left behind. Meat gets believers off the milk bottle and into teaching that supports a viable living ministry.
Les explains that doing all preaching and teaching from the four Gospels will not produce a viable living ministry. He calls those things the milk of the Word and says they must be left behind. Paul himself in Hebrews says believers are to desire the meat, get into that which is strong, and grow off the milk bottle. Les illustrates this by telling Sunday school kids to throw away their milk bottle and start eating t-bone steaks, potatoes, and vegetables, because that is what the meat of the Word is about.
