What happens as Israel tries to assimilate among the nations?
As Israel tries to assimilate and become just another member of the family of nations, the nation digs itself deeper into a hole and gets backed into a corner. Eventually it will have no hope except the coming of its king, and Scripture indicates it will first embrace the false king, the Antichrist.
Les explains that Israel wants its economy to mesh with the European common market and compete with the Gentile nations, but God says, “No, you are a separated people.” They have not learned their lesson. As they try to assimilate and become just another member of the family of nations, they get deeper and deeper into the hole they are digging and are backed into a corner. The context says the day is coming when Israel will have no hope except the coming of their king, and he will come. Yet they will first accept the false king, the Antichrist; Jesus said in John’s Gospel that though they rejected Him, another would come in his own name and they would embrace him. Les notes that Jewish people describe a Messiah with military, economic, and charismatic qualifications, which describes the Antichrist, but they do not see it. What is left for the nation is their fullness; the Old Testament covenant promises are still coming, withheld for almost 2,000 years, but God has not forgotten them.
