What was the promised Kingdom that Israel was looking for?

Israel was looking for the promised glorious Kingdom ruled by the Son of God Himself, a King and Kingdom in which Israel would be the leading nation. They wanted the Messiah's peace and prosperity and deliverance from Roman rule, but not the suffering Savior who would deal with their sin.

Les teaches from Romans 11:7 that Old Testament prophecy contained two parallel lines, which he calls railroad tracks. One line promised a suffering Savior who would suffer and die for Israel's sins. The other promised a King and a Kingdom—a glorious Kingdom over which the Son of God Himself would rule and reign, with Israel as the top dog of the nations. At Christ's first coming, Israel wanted the King and the Kingdom, not the suffering Savior, because that would mean dealing with their sin. They wanted the Romans out of Jerusalem and the peace and prosperity the Messiah would bring. Les likens this to the world today, which wants a utopian kingdom of peace and prosperity but refuses to deal with sin.
