What was Jezreel in Israel's history?

Jezreel was Israel's second government palace, a city where Jezebel received news from Mount Carmel after Elijah's confrontation with the prophets of Baal. It was a seat of government in Israel's history, located across the valley from Mount Carmel, and it was from there Jezebel threatened Elijah.

Les explains that after Elijah called down fire from heaven on Mount Carmel, proving Jehovah was still the God of Israel, Elijah demanded the 400 prophets of Baal be killed. A messenger then traveled from Mount Carmel across the valley to Jezreel, which was their second government palace, and told Jezebel what had happened. Jezebel sent word back that by the next day Elijah would be as dead as her prophets. Les teaches this is hard to understand in Israel's history, because despite all the manifestations of Jehovah's power, they could sink into unbelief at the drop of a hat, and even Elijah did.
