What does Romans 11:6 mean when it says if it is by grace it is no more of works?

Romans 11:6 teaches that salvation is by grace through the gospel, not by works. If it were by works, grace would cease to be grace, and work would no longer be work. Both Jew and Gentile must drop works-religion and come to God on the same grace basis.

Les explains that Romans 11:6 means the gospel by which we are saved is by grace, so it is no more of works. Jewish people must understand that if they are saved by this gospel of grace, they have to drop all their works religion of Judaism. Their ceremonies, Passover service, and feast days are beautiful pictures of the program of grace, but they are not saved by keeping those Jewish feast celebrations. They must come away from that and realize it is not by works or keeping feast days, but all of grace. There can be no works for a Jew any more than for a Gentile. Verse 6 adds that if it is of works, then it is no more grace, otherwise work is no more work. It sounds like double talk, but it isn't.

Romans 11:6

And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.
