Les Feldick Bible Study

Why does Les find Romans 10:21 hard to comprehend?

It is hard to comprehend because God supernaturally brought about the nation of Israel, calling Abraham out of Ur and fulfilling the promised son Isaac, then dealt with Israel as His chosen, set-apart people, bringing them out of Egypt by miracle after miracle, yet Romans 10:21 describes them as a disobedient and gainsaying people.

Les explains that Romans 10:21 is one of the toughest things for him to comprehend in Scripture because of the contrast it presents. God supernaturally brought about the nation of Israel: He called Abraham out of Ur of the Chaldees and told him He would make of him a nation of people. He fulfilled the promise with the supernatural birth of Isaac, the promised son. Isaac fathered Jacob, Jacob fathered the twelve sons, and they ended up down in Egypt. There God began to deal with those Israelites as His chosen, set-apart nation, and He brought them out supernaturally with miracle after miracle, with that multitude following their leader Moses. Yet the verse says God stretched forth His hands all day long to a disobedient and gainsaying people.

Romans 10:21

But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.
