What did God say to Israel in Egypt about being separate from the Egyptians?

God told Israel while in Egypt that He would put a division between them and the Egyptians. Deuteronomy states plainly that they were a separated people unto Him, and Exodus 19 calls Israel a kingdom of priests, showing they were set apart as God’s covenant people.

Les teaches that Israel had it pounded into them ever since they became a nation in Egypt that they were a set-apart people. They were God’s covenant people. God told them in Egypt, “I will put a division between you and the Egyptians,” and in Deuteronomy He says as plain as day, “you are a separated people unto me.” Exodus chapter 19 says to the nation of Israel, “you shall be a kingdom of priests.” Les explains that this set-apart identity carried all the way into Paul’s day, and when Paul started going to the Gentiles, they hated him for it. In Acts 22 Paul, under Roman protective custody, addresses the Jewish crowd in Jerusalem and rehearses his salvation experience, including the Lord’s instruction to leave Jerusalem because they would not receive his testimony.
