How many Old Testament prophecies are there about the Messiah's first coming?

The Old Testament contains approximately 360 distinct prophecies concerning the Messiah's first coming. This figure is given as '360 some,' indicating a rough estimate. These many predictions should have enabled the people of that day to recognize Him when He appeared, but they did not.

Les explains that the Old Testament was full of prophecies—'360 some,' if he is not mistaken—distinct prophecies concerning the Messiah's first coming. He notes that the Jewish people of that day knew their Old Testament, at least they thought they did. They should have known who He was the minute He came on the scene, but they did not. Les says the reason was that they could read the Old Testament and not see a word it said. He compares this to people today who read Paul's letters but do not really read them. He shares an anecdote about a doctor friend who read something three or four times before finally saying, 'Oh, well that's funny, I never saw that before.' Les remarks that doctors should be able to read, but they just cannot see what it says. He says Israel was no different: they would read those Old Testament prophecies concerning the coming of their Messiah and did not know what it was talking about. So when He came, presented Himself, performed the miracles and signs, they still could not believe who He was. Les then cautions against casting blame on the Jew, because we are no different, and America is no different. No nation on earth has been so saturated with the Word of God as America; the Bible is in every home, more than one copy, though it may collect dust.
