Are we saved by faith plus anything?
Salvation is by faith plus nothing. God has revealed that all a person must do is believe that Christ died, shed His blood, was buried, and rose from the dead. When God declared this is all that is necessary for salvation, He expects people to believe it, adding nothing to it.
Les teaches that the secret things belong to the Lord, but the things He has revealed belong to us and our children. He explains that God is sovereign and reveals truth in His own time. Adam and Eve and Abraham did not understand the Gospel because it had not yet been revealed; it was kept secret in the mind of God. Even though the Old Testament was full of it by innuendo, people do not believe something until God says it. Now God has revealed the Gospel of the grace of God: Christ died, shed His blood, was buried, and rose from the dead. Les emphasizes that when God said this is all that is necessary for salvation, He expects us to believe it. Therefore, salvation is by faith plus nothing in what God has now proclaimed. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.
