Who is the chief cornerstone that the Scripture says is laid in Zion?

The chief cornerstone laid in Zion is Christ. Scripture declares God lays in Zion a chief cornerstone, elect, precious, and whoever believes on Him—that stone, Christ—shall not be confounded or disappointed. Peter cites this to urge faith in the rock of offense and stone of stumbling.

Les explains that the chief cornerstone laid in Zion, which is Jerusalem, is Christ. The Scripture calls this stone elect and precious, and says that he who believes on Him shall not be confounded—or, as Les clarifies, not disappointed. Les uses this to contrast believers with many people today who, even amid churches on every corner, slip into eternity thinking they are going the right direction but are disappointed because they did not put their faith in that stone. Peter tells his readers to put their faith in the rock of offense, the stone of stumbling, and let Him be precious to them. Les notes that Peter no longer repeats Acts 2:38's call to repent and be baptized for remission of sin; now he says the position of not being disappointed is attained by believing. Verse 7 then says, “Unto you therefore, who believe.”

1 Peter 2:6

Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.
