What happens when the seven-year tribulation begins?

When the seven-year tribulation begins, it initiates a seven-year period of God dealing primarily with the Jew according to His righteousness. By its end, the unbelieving element will have suffered His wrath and judgment, while the believing remnant will enter the glory of His rule and reign when He sets up His Kingdom.

Les explains that once the tribulation’s seven years start, it will be a seven-year period in which God deals primarily with the Jew, and He will deal with the Jew according to His righteousness. That righteousness mandates that by the time those seven years are ended, the unbelieving element will have suffered His wrath and His judgment, but the believing remnant will come into the glory of His rule and reign when He sets up His Kingdom. This is why Scripture says He will finish the work and cut it short in righteousness: a short work of seven years is not very long in light of the 6,000 years since Adam.

Romans 9:28

For he will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth.

Does Matthew 24:22 mean the tribulation will be shortened to less than seven years?

The shortening of the days in Matthew 24:22 does not mean God will compress the seven-year tribulation down to six and a half years; it means that when the seven years is complete, God is through, showing He is in total sovereign control.
