Why did the Jews seek to kill Jesus according to John 8:37?
According to John 8:37, they sought to kill Jesus because His word had no place in them. Although they were Abraham's seed and claimed righteousness through genealogy, they rejected the truth He spoke from the Father and remained blind to their sin.
Les explains that the Jews were relying on their genealogy, claiming to be children of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and therefore thought they had no sin problem. Jesus acknowledged they were Abraham's seed, yet He said they sought to kill Him because His word had no place in them. They could not embrace Him or recognize who He was because they were blind. In verse 38 Jesus contrasted His Father with their father, and when they insisted Abraham was their father, He replied that if they were Abraham's children they would do the works of Abraham and be people of faith. Instead, they sought to kill Him, a man who told them the truth He heard from God, which Abraham did not do.
I know that ye are Abraham’s seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.
