What should a person worry about instead of whether they are elect?

A person should not worry about whether they are among the elect. Instead, they should concern themselves with what they will do with the gospel: whether they will believe it and thereby become one of the elect, or reject it and go to their doom.

Les explains that the real issue is not election but one's response to the gospel. He recounts a man who claimed that if he were elect he had nothing to worry about, and if he were not, nothing could be done, so he would go to hell anyway. Les says, 'Mister, wake up,' and directs him to ask what he will do with the gospel: believe it and become one of the elect, or reject it and go to doom. Les also notes believers can look back and see they were chosen before the foundation of the world, while a lost person is still on the other side of the door where 'whosoever will may come.' He affirms God's sovereignty but insists God is righteous and holy and will never act unfairly.
