Is election based on works or on God who calls?
Election stands not of works but of Him who calls. The twins, Esau and Jacob, were not yet born and had done neither good nor evil, so God's purpose according to election rests on His sovereign call, not on human deserving or works.
Les explains that Rebecca conceived twins by Isaac, and before Esau and Jacob were born, neither having done anything good or evil, God's purpose according to election might stand. It is not of works, not what man deserves, but of Him who calls—the sovereign God. Les also illustrates that whosoever will may come, yet those who respond look back and read chosen from before the foundation of the world.
