What can believers understand after they are saved?

After salvation, believers can understand that God had them in His sights before the world was ever created. They recognize this happened only by God's grace, not because they were smart enough or had any personal wherewithal. It confirms God's sovereignty in grace and that their escape from judgment came by accepting God's pardon.

Les explains that believers were hell-bound sinners just like everybody else and were just as deserving of God's punishment as anyone could be. The reason they escape is not personal merit but that they accepted God's pardon; it is only by the grace of God that He put His finger on them. After they are saved, they can understand that God had them in His sights before the world was ever created. This illustrates God's sovereignty in grace, and no one can boast of being smart enough or having the wherewithal, because salvation is wholly by God's grace.
