What must an unbeliever understand about God's will for people perishing?
An unbeliever must understand that whosoever will may come, and that God is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. Scripture declares that Christ died for every man, so God's will extends to the perishing and calls them to repentance.
Les teaches that the deep doctrine of election and calling since eternity past is for believers, not unbelievers, because the unbeliever cannot comprehend it and it is not for him to swallow. Instead, the unbeliever must understand whosoever will may come. The unbeliever must understand that God has said He is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. Scripture says Christ died for every man, so the unbeliever is not excluded from the gospel invitation.
The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
