Why is it blasphemy to equate God the Son with other gods?

Paul presents God the Son as the image of the invisible God and the Creator by whom all things were made. To reduce Him to the level of mankind's imagined gods is blasphemy because it denies His unique deity and creatorhood; all things were created by Him and for Him.

Les teaches from verses 15–16 that the Son is the image or visible appearance of the invisible God. The invisible Godhead—the Trinity, the Elohim of the Old Testament—stepped out in one person, took on flesh, and became visible in the Lord Jesus. By God the Son all things were created in heaven and earth, visible and invisible, including thrones, dominions, principalities, and powers; everything was created by Him and for Him. So when people take this person of the Godhead and bring Him down to the level of the various other gods of mankind's dreaming, Les calls it blasphemy. He is the Creator, and one day every human being will know Him as such; the lost will meet Him at the great white throne and will not argue.
