What religious background did Paul's converts come from?

Paul's converts came from a religious background of paganism, steeped in mythology and idol worship. The whole world around Paul was immersed in paganism, and these people had recently been steeped in idolatry before coming out of darkness into the light of Paul's gospel.

Les explains that all of Paul's converts came from a religious background of paganism. The whole world around Paul was steeped with paganism, mythology, and idol worship. These people had recently been steeped in idolatry and paganism and had now come out of the darkness and stepped into the light of Paul's gospel. Les also notes that Paul uses the same analogy and word that Israel was steeped in with their system of worship, as the pagans were doing much the same with ritual and services. He further points out that superstition is man's fear and opposing the powers of evil, not man seeking God, and that when Paul was in Athens he saw idols and an altar to the unknown God, calling them too superstitious.
