Should Christians expect the Israeli government to be godly?
Christians should not expect the government in Jerusalem to be godly or more righteous than any other government. It is secular, composed of ordinary human beings, and under the control of the God of this world, just as Washington D.C. is. Yet the nation remains God's covenant people, set aside and spiritually blinded, but God is not through with them.
Les teaches that the government in Jerusalem should not be expected to be godly or any more righteous than any other government. It is secular and made up of ordinary human beings doing what they think is right for their circumstances, and it is just as much under the control of the God of this world as Washington D.C. is. Many assume that because Israel is biblical, nothing evil should come from the Knesset, but Les says don't expect that. They are under the God of this world as any other nation. The exception is that they are still God's covenant people, presently set aside and spiritually blinded as a nation, but God is not through with them. He will one day pick up where He left off. The covenant promises, such as Jeremiah 31, are yet future and not appropriate to apply to Israel tonight, but they will one day enjoy it.
