How does the Davidic royal line run from David to Joseph and Mary?
The Davidic royal line begins with David, continues through Solomon and Nathan (sons of David and Bathsheba), then traces down through history until it reaches Joseph and Mary in the New Testament. It nearly broke during Babylonian captivity, but God preserved it until Christ was born.
Les teaches that the Davidic covenant in 2 Samuel 7 is surrounded by the Abrahamic covenant. He explains that David had already committed adultery with Bathsheba, who became his wife and bore Solomon and Nathan. God looks at this royal family beginning with David, coming down to Solomon, then to the two sons of Bathsheba and David, Nathan and Solomon. From there the genealogy goes all the way down through history to the New Testament and Joseph and Mary. Les calls the near-break 'the wasp neck' during the Babylonian captivity, when only one man remained in the kingly line who could still have a son. It almost looked like a little snip would end it, but God prevailed and the genealogy continued until Christ was born.
