How did the royal line of David continue all the way to the birth of Christ despite ungodly kings?
God's promise to David established the royal family, the house of David. Despite ungodly kings arising throughout history, the royal blood stayed together until the birth of Christ. Mary was His physical mother, and Joseph was the legal father, so he too was included in the Davidic genealogy.
