Where did the nation of Israel come from — who were their ancestors?
The nation of Israel came from the same twelve sons who sold Joseph into Egypt, descendants of Abraham through Isaac and Jacob. Those twelve sons became the twelve tribes, multiplied in Egypt, were led out by Moses, and brought into the land by Joshua.
Les teaches that the nation of Israel came from the same twelve sons who had sold Joseph down into Egypt. He notes that many people have not been taught these basic fundamentals. After Abraham received the covenant promise that a nation would come from him, the next person in response to that covenant was Isaac, then Jacob, and out of Jacob came the twelve sons, one of whom was Joseph. Because of Joseph, those twelve sons ended up down in Egypt because of the grain. While those twelve sons and their families were in Egypt, they exploded in population, and those twelve sons became the twelve tribes of Israel, which Moses led out, took through the wilderness, and Joshua led into the land.
