Why did God choose Israel to be the nation from Abraham?

God chose Abraham and his descendants to form a distinct nation through which He would communicate and bring the plan of redemption to the whole human race. The Abrahamic covenant promised a great nation, a land, and a future king/government, making Israel the vehicle for God's redemptive purpose.

Les explains that in Genesis 12 God does something totally different: out of the one race of Adam, He picks one man, Abraham, down in Ur of the Chaldeans. Abraham was originally a Syrian, though he became the father of the Jewish people. God promised Abraham that out of him He would bring about a nation of people totally different from any other race on earth. That nation would be the vehicle through which God would communicate and bring about the whole plan of redemption to the whole human race through Israel. God gave Abraham the Abrahamic covenant, promising to make of him a great nation, to put him in a geographical area of land, and one day to come and be their king and government.
