Les Feldick Bible Study

If I have faith to believe the gospel, why should I also be sure nothing can separate me from God?

Saving faith and salvation are God’s own work: once He has elected you and brought you into His salvation, no one can lay a charge against you or take you out of His hand. If your faith was sufficient to believe the gospel, it should also take God at His word that you are His.

Les explains that the verse asking, “Who shall lay anything to the charge of God’s elect?” presses the security of the believer. He stresses that these verses hammer home the idea that once God has put the finger on us, elected us, and we have responded and entered His salvation, no one can touch that, because it is all what God has done. He warns that people who ask how anyone can know they will go to heaven show they are totally unaware of true saving faith. If a person has enough faith to believe the Gospel and be brought into that salvation mode, then that faith should also take God at His word about the rest: you’re His. No one can take us out of His hand. Les also notes that God the Son gave Himself up of His own volition and became obedient to the death of the cross, and he cannot see God electing someone who would later choose to reject Him.
