Do you have to get drunk to enjoy life?
No. Enjoying life does not require drunkenness. A person can enjoy life fully without ever getting drunk, and drunkenness is portrayed as pointless because it destroys the memory of the good time. True joy is rooted in new life in Christ and eternity.
Les teaches that when Christ died, believers died; when He was buried, they were buried in the mind of God; and they were resurrected with Him and given new life. He contrasts a hypothetical 90-year life lived at the speed and enjoyment of a 25- or 30-year-old with the billions upon billions of years of eternity that are coming. He says materialism and good times can keep young people in the dark, but that does not mean they must stop enjoying life. He says he has enjoyed life as much as anybody and never had to get drunk. He told men in service that drunkenness gains nothing if you do not remember what you did; he had good times and can remember them.
