Why is Jesus called the God-man?
Jesus is called the God-man because He is the Son of God and was made of the seed of David according to the flesh. Scripture presents Him as both the promised seed of the woman and the Son declared with power.
Les explains that Romans 1:3 identifies Jesus Christ as the Son of God who was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; this dual truth is why He is the God-man. The seed of David traces back to the promise in Genesis 3:15 of the seed of the woman, running through the Jewish patriarchs and the nation of Israel, and all the covenant promises rest on God's promise of the coming seed, Christ. Verse 4 declares Him to be the Son of God with power, which He manifested through miracles during His three years of earthly ministry, such as the time on the Sea of Galilee when a storm raged and the disciples were afraid and woke Him.
