What is Genesis 3:15 really telling us?
Genesis 3:15 is the first promise concerning Christ in the flesh. It tells us the seed of the woman is Christ. He will bruise the serpent's head, defeating Satan at the cross. The serpent will bruise His heel, causing Christ's suffering through the ordeal of the cross.
Les teaches that Genesis 3:15 is the first parcel of the promise concerning Christ in the flesh. The seed of the woman, as Galatians explains, is Christ, and He is speaking to the serpent. The seed of the woman will bruise the head of the serpent, which means Christ defeated Satan at the cross. But the verse also says the serpent will bruise the seed's heel, referring to the suffering Christ went through during the ordeal of the cross. So in reality, the verse tells us the woman's seed would defeat the serpent at the cross, while the serpent would cause the suffering of the cross and bruise the heel of the Redeemer. Les stresses that the seed of the woman in Scripture is Christ, and beginning with Eve, God promised that through the woman of the human race would come the Messiah.
And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
