Were the covenants given to the church or to Israel?
The covenants were given to the nation of Israel, never to the Church. Paul references this in Romans 9:4, showing that the covenants belong to Israel. They were established in Genesis 12, 15, and 17 and then repeated to Isaac, the son of promise, in Genesis 26.
Les explains that the covenant situation Paul makes reference to in Romans 9:4 was given to the nation of Israel, never to the Church. He looks back at the covenants in Genesis 12, 15, and 17, then follows the covenant promise as it is repeated to Isaac, the son of promise, in Genesis 26. In verse 2, the Lord appears to Isaac and tells him not to go down into Egypt, but to dwell in the land God will tell him of, promising to be with him and bless him and his seed.
