What covenant did God make with David?
God made a covenant with David that through him would come a royal family bloodline, and through that royal family would come the King of Israel. This covenant established David's line as the source of Israel's coming King, as later traced through Solomon and Nathan.
Les explains that about 1000 BC, roughly 500 years after the law, God raised up another great patriarch, David, King David. Then to David God makes another covenant: that through this David would be a royal family bloodline, and through this royal family would come the King of Israel. He notes that when you follow the genealogies coming out of David, you have Solomon and Bathsheba, who have two sons—Solomon on the one side and Nathan on the other.
