Les Feldick Bible Study

Why is comparing Scripture with Scripture the best way to study the Bible?

Scripture should be compared with Scripture because no Scripture is a private interpretation. A doctrine cannot be built on one isolated verse here and there, since that method can build anything. Using all Scripture from Genesis through Revelation lets the whole fit together, and seeming contradictions fade away when studied.

Les explains that the best way to study is to compare Scripture with Scripture. The reason is that Peter says in his little epistle that no Scripture is a private interpretation. That means you cannot build a doctrine on one verse of Scripture here and one verse there, because you can build anything when you do that. Instead, it is our prerogative to use all the Scripture from Genesis through Revelation and see to it that it all fits. Seemingly contradictions may arise, but when you study they just sort of fade away; they are not contradictory at all.
