Was Abraham offering Isaac a preview of the New Testament?

Yes, the offering of Isaac was a preview of the New Testament. Old Testament events foreshadowed what took place in the New, as Abraham laid Isaac upon the altar. Isaac did not struggle or fight back but in complete obedience let Abraham lay him upon the altar, just as God did not spare His Son, who was obedient unto death.

Les explains that many things in the Old Testament were just a preview of what took place in the New. He points to Abraham laying Isaac upon the altar as a picture of God not sparing His Son, but letting Him be crucified and mishandled by the powers in vogue at that time. Les notes that Scripture gives no indication Isaac struggled or fought back; in complete obedience he let Abraham lay him on the altar. This parallels the Lord Jesus, who, as seen in Philippians, was obedient unto that kind of death.
