How should a Christian respond when facing death for Christ?
A Christian facing death for Christ should respond in silent submission, like a sheep led to the slaughter, not screaming or squealing like pigs. This reflects God's way and follows the Lamb of God, who, as Isaiah wrote, answered not a word.
Les explains that Paul draws an analogy of the believer as a sheep for the slaughter. He notes that in the old Chicago meat packing complex, hogs squealed loudly, but sheep went to the kill in utter silence. A goat would lead sheep down the alleyways to slaughter, then slip out a side door. Les says believers may someday go like sheep to the slaughter, and asks whether we will scream and squeal like pigs. The answer is no, because that is not the way God works. Even the Lamb of God Himself, as Isaiah said, answered not a word.
As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
