Does God care whether His promises are fulfilled soon or far in the future?
No. God is not bound by human timetables and is not concerned whether He brings everything to fruition tomorrow, ten years from now, or a hundred years from now. His promises will certainly come to pass, but believers cannot push Him to act faster; they are to wait patiently without losing sight that it will happen.
Les explains that faith and hope are intertwined. If a person sees something, there is no need to hope for it, and he notes that anticipation is often more exciting than realization. In Romans 8:25, if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience. With God, time does not mean that much; He is not concerned whether He brings everything to its fruition tomorrow, ten years from now, or a hundred years from now. We know it is coming, and we cannot push God to do it faster, so we wait patiently. In our patience we must never lose sight of the fact that it is going to happen. Christ is going to return, and it feels nearer every day. Then in verse 26, the Holy Spirit who indwells us according to Paul’s teaching also helps our infirmities and weaknesses, since we deal with the invisible realm of the Spirit. The application is to let God do it.
But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.
