What is the culmination of the process of becoming a Christian?
The culmination is calling upon the name of the Lord. After recognizing that Christ died for our sin and that we are hopeless in ourselves, a person calls upon Him, and Scripture promises that whosoever shall call upon the name of the LORD shall be saved.
Les explains that verse 13 is the culmination of this whole act of becoming a believer. A person first recognizes that Christ died for our sin and that we are hopeless in ourselves, and then calls upon Him. The promise is that whosoever shall call upon the name of the LORD shall be saved. Earlier, confession with the mouth unto salvation is mentioned, though it is not that someone must tell somebody before being saved; rather, having experienced something good, a believer should be ready to talk about it. Les illustrates that just as a lifeguard hears the child in trouble despite all the noise, God hears the one who calls.
