Do believers become full heirs with Christ at the moment of salvation?
Yes. At salvation, the Holy Spirit places the believer into God’s family as a born child, and God immediately performs another act that places them as a full heir and joint heir with Jesus Christ. This position is not earned by years of striving but received the moment one believes, enabling the believer to cry, 'Abba Father.'
Les teaches that adoption in Scripture means being placed as a full son, not merely born into the family or legally taken from another family. The son had gone through training and tutoring, then was placed as a full partner with the father. In the same way, the moment we are saved, we are born into the family of God by the Holy Spirit, but God immediately places us as the full heir with Jesus Christ. We do not have to work for twenty years like Jacob did for his wives, or strive and strain to attain this position; it is ours the moment we believe. That is why we can say, 'Abba Father.' Because we are children, we are heirs—not just heirs down the line hoping for a little inheritance, but joint heirs. In our culture, a joint heir implies equality: what is His is hers, and vice versa.
