What does praying for the peace of Jerusalem really mean?

Praying for the peace of Jerusalem means praying for the Lord’s coming, because Jerusalem will have no peace until the Prince of Peace is back in Jerusalem. It is essentially praying, “Lord come quickly,” as John does in Revelation, rather than trusting human efforts to bring peace.

Les explains that the Psalm’s command to pray for the peace of Jerusalem is not merely a political or earthly hope. He says it means you pray for the Lord’s coming, since Jerusalem will have no peace until the Prince of Peace is back in Jerusalem. So praying for Jerusalem’s peace is really praying, “Lord come quickly,” as John does in Revelation. He contrasts this with the world’s expectation that the United Nations and human efforts will solve all problems, insisting there will be no peace on earth until the Prince of Peace comes. This confidence rests on the certainty that Christ is coming and that believers shall be like Him when He appears.
