At the moment of sin, what happened to Adam's spirit and his relationship with God?
At the moment Adam sinned, his spirit died and his fellowship with God was broken. His soul—mind, will, and emotions—immediately became a sin nature, but the spiritual consequence was that the spirit, the core where he communed with God, lost that relationship.
Les teaches that Adam was body, soul, and spirit. The spirit was the part of Adam wherein he fellowshiped with God and had communion with Him. When Adam disobeyed, his personality—the mind, will, and emotion—became immediately a sin nature, so that all it could think of was sin. At that same instant, the spirit and God relationship was broken because the spirit in Adam died. Scripture distinguishes soul and spirit, even though they are closely intertwined, and this spirit is the core of our very being wherein Adam had fellowship with God and wherein believers have that fellowship restored.
