Can you buy the gift of the Holy Spirit?
No. The Holy Spirit is a gift from God, not something that can be bought with money. Simon attempted to purchase the gift and power of the Holy Spirit in Samaria, but Peter rebuked him, saying his money would perish with him. Believers are bought with a price, the blood of Christ.
Les explains that the body is the temple or dwelling place of the Holy Spirit, whom believers have of God. You don't buy Him. He points to Simon in Samaria, who tried to buy the gift and power of the Holy Spirit. Peter responded, "Your money perish with you." The Holy Spirit is a gift of God, not earned or deserved. Verse 20 says, "For you are bought with a price," not with money or anything we have, but with the blood of Christ, as Peter writes in his epistle. Therefore, glorify God in your body, because it is the body that is the indwelling Spirit, and it belongs to the Creator God Himself.
