Les Feldick Bible Study

Why did Les teach that Saul of Tarsus was carnal even though he was religious?

Saul of Tarsus was carnal because, although religious, his motivating power was not what pleased God; he was stamping out those who recognized Jesus as the Christ. His religious zeal opposed Christ, as he and religious Jews could not believe Jesus was the promised Christ.

Les explains that Saul of Tarsus was carnal and fleshly even though he was religious. The motivating power within him was not the things pleasing to God but quite the contrary, because he was stamping out those who had recognized Jesus was indeed the Christ. Les also emphasizes the mindset of not only Saul of Tarsus but all the religious Jews of Jesus' day: they were so constantly against Him because they could not believe He was the Christ, the one promised all the way back from Genesis chapter 12.
