What must we do to be married to Christ according to Romans 7?
According to Romans 7, old Adam must be crucified and put to death so he is broken from the demands of the Ten Commandments and the Mosaic law; then one is married to Christ. This union delivers from the law, that being dead, so we serve in newness of spirit, the Holy Spirit.
Les explains that being married to Christ is a positional union between us and Christ, like a husband and wife, an analogy Paul also uses in Ephesians 5 where Christ loved the church and husbands are told to love their wives. In Romans 7, the prerequisite is crucifying old Adam, putting him to death so he is broken from the demands of the Ten Commandments, and then being married to Christ. Verse 6 says now that we're married to Christ, old Adam is crucified and broken from the demands of the Mosaic law; we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held, so that we should serve in newness of spirit—the Holy Spirit. Les notes most people don't know this is in Romans 7.
